Signs are environments
A planet acts differently depending on the sign it occupies. Mars in Aries acts directly and quickly. Mars in Cancer is more protective and emotionally reactive. Venus in Taurus is steady and sensual; Venus in Scorpio is intense and private.
This does not make one placement universally better. It tells you how the planet's function expresses itself.
Elements
Elements provide the fastest beginner translation layer.
- Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Initiative, vision, confidence, heat, action.
- Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Form, work, resources, realism, structure.
- Air signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Ideas, exchange, systems, networks, communication.
- Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. Feeling, intuition, memory, depth, devotion.
Modalities
Modalities show movement style.
- Movable signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn. Start, move, initiate, change.
- Fixed signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. Hold, preserve, stabilize, intensify.
- Dual signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces. Adapt, bridge, learn, synthesize.
Dispositor logic
The sign lord, also called the dispositor, matters because it hosts the planet. If Mercury is in Capricorn, Saturn's condition affects Mercury. If Jupiter is in Taurus, Venus becomes relevant. This creates chains of dependency in a chart.
